Udzungwa Mountains National Park is a spectacular rainforest destination in southern Tanzania, forming part of the Eastern Arc Mountains. The park is known for its ancient forests, dramatic waterfalls, scenic mountain trails and unique wildlife, including the endemic Udzungwa red colobus and Sanje mangabey. The famous Sanje Waterfalls, forest trails and panoramic views over the Kilombero Valley make Udzungwa an excellent destination for hiking, birdwatching, nature walks and exploring Tanzania’s biodiversity.
The best time to visit Udzungwa for hiking and outdoor activities is generally from June to September, during the drier season when trails are easier to navigate. The park remains open throughout the year, while December to February can be particularly rewarding for birdwatching. The wetter months bring lush forests and flowing waterfalls but can make some trails more challenging.
