Katavi National Park is one of Tanzania’s remote and wildest safari destinations, located in the western part of the country. The park is known for its vast plains, seasonal wetlands and rich wildlife, including large herds of buffalo, elephants, hippos, lions, leopards and other wildlife. Its remote location offers travellers an authentic wilderness experience with fewer visitors and a strong sense of untouched nature.
The best time to visit Katavi is generally from June to October, during the dry season when wildlife gathers around the remaining water sources and rivers. The dry months provide excellent opportunities for game viewing, while the wet season transforms the park into a lush landscape with abundant birdlife and seasonal wildlife activity.
Best for: Remote safaris, buffalo herds, elephants, hippos, big cats, wilderness, birdwatching and authentic safari experiences.
