Mikumi National Park

Mikumi National Park is one of Tanzania’s most accessible safari destinations, located along the main route between Dar es Salaam and southern Tanzania. The park is known for its open Mkata River floodplain, scenic landscapes and diverse wildlife, including elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes and hippos. Mikumi is an excellent choice for travellers looking for a short Tanzania safari or a convenient wildlife experience from Dar es Salaam.

The best time to visit Mikumi is generally from June to October, when the dry weather makes wildlife easier to spot and game drives more comfortable. January and February can also offer good safari conditions, while the wetter months bring greener landscapes and attractive opportunities for birdwatching and photography.

he safari was absolutely incredible, and Joseph and his team made all the difference. Their experience and knowledge made it possible for us to see so many animals, including lionesses. We also had some truly magical moments, such as having a picnic in a beautiful valley surrounded by giraffes, baboons, zebras and elephants. But what I value most about the whole trip was Joseph’s incredible kindness and attention to every detail. We did our Arusha trip with them. Right from picking us up at the airport to drop offs and 2 days Safari to Tarangire and Ngorongoro, their service was impeccable. Punctual, clean, friendly, polite, knowledgeable, not at all pushy. Our Safari guide Mishalu was the kindest, politest, friendly and nicest person. Their Safari jeep was comfortable. They went out of the way to make us (we two and our 12 year old kids) comfortable, fulfilled all our requests for stops, helped with esim, currency exchange, everything. Our four day safari in Tanzania was so much more than just a trip through beautiful landscapes. It was an intense, educational and incredibly warm experience. From the very beginning Joseph impressed us with his incredible knowledge about wildlife and plants. It often felt like being part of a live nature documentary. What we liked most was that he showed us many small details in nature that we would never have noticed on our own. Through his explanations we were able to see everything with completely new eyes. This safari truly went beyond the usual experience. Joseph was not only focused on guiding us, he was also interested in us and our lives. He asked about how we live, how we think and what our perspectives are. This created meaningful conversations and a genuine exchange.
