1-Day Fly-In Ruaha National Park Extreme Safari
An exclusive-feeling wilderness adventure from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar
Safari Overview
Discover the wild beauty of Ruaha National Park on an adventurous fly-in safari from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar. Famous for its vast wilderness, ancient baobab trees, impressive elephant populations and powerful predators, Ruaha offers an exciting opportunity to explore one of Tanzania’s remarkable southern safari destinations in a single day.
Fly to Msembe Airstrip, meet your professional safari driver-guide and venture into the park in a 4×4 safari vehicle. Explore rugged landscapes and wildlife-rich areas around the Great Ruaha River, where elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hippos and crocodiles may be seen. Sightings of leopards, cheetahs and African wild dogs are possible but cannot be guaranteed. This itinerary is designed around the available flight schedule, park access and the confirmed safari arrangements.
Day Itinerary
Early Morning: Hotel Pick-Up and Flight to Ruaha
Start early with a pick-up from your hotel or resort in Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, followed by a transfer to Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) or Zanzibar International Airport (ZNZ), as applicable. Board your scheduled domestic flight to Msembe Airstrip in Ruaha National Park. On arrival, meet your safari driver-guide, receive a short briefing and prepare for a full day of wildlife exploration.
Morning: 4×4 Game Drive Through Ruaha’s Wilderness
Begin your game drive through Ruaha’s rugged terrain, open savannah, riverine habitats and striking baobab landscapes. Search for large elephant herds, lions and a variety of plains wildlife. Your guide will help identify animal tracks, explain wildlife behaviour and look for opportunities to observe predators and other species in their natural habitat.
Midday: Great Ruaha River and Bush Lunch
Explore areas around the Great Ruaha River, an important source of water for wildlife, particularly during the dry season. Look for hippos, crocodiles, elephants and other animals visiting the riverbanks. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated or approved location, subject to park regulations and the arrangements included in your package.
Afternoon: Extended Wildlife Exploration
Continue your safari through different habitats in search of giraffes, zebras, antelopes, buffaloes and other wildlife. With favourable conditions, you may encounter leopards, cheetahs or endangered African wild dogs. Ruaha’s wildlife moves freely, so sightings vary according to the season, weather and animal movements. Enjoy the scenery and take photographs before returning towards the airstrip.
Late Afternoon: Return Flight to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar
Transfer to Msembe Airstrip in time for your scheduled return flight. Upon arrival in Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, meet your transfer driver for the journey back to your hotel or resort if this service is included in your confirmed package. Your extraordinary one-day Ruaha safari concludes with memories of Tanzania’s remote southern wilderness.
Meals: Picnic lunch, subject to package confirmation
