Day 1: Uluguru Mountain Trek and Choma Waterfall
Early Morning Pick-Up and Airport Transfer
Your day begins with an early pick-up from your hotel or resort in Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar. Transfer to Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) or Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) for your planned journey to the Morogoro area. The flight routing and departure arrangements will be confirmed in advance according to available services.
Arrival in Morogoro and Guide Briefing
On arrival, meet your local driver and mountain guide. Receive a briefing about the planned walking route, trail conditions, hiking pace and safety guidelines before beginning your exploration of the Uluguru Mountains.
Guided Uluguru Ridge Hike
Follow shaded mountain trails through lush vegetation and traditional terraced farms. As you climb along selected sections of the Uluguru ridges, enjoy views of the surrounding highlands and learn about the area’s rich plant life and agricultural practices. The route and distance will depend on weather, available time and the group’s fitness.
Luguru Village and Cultural Experience
Pass through or visit a Luguru village where local arrangements permit. Learn about traditional farming, community life and the cultural heritage of the mountain region through your guide’s explanations and any locally arranged interaction.
Choma Waterfall and Picnic Lunch
Continue along the trail to Choma Waterfall, a scenic cascade set within the mountain forest. Spend time enjoying the natural surroundings, taking photographs and eating your packed picnic lunch. Swimming may be possible when water levels and conditions are suitable and your local guide confirms it is safe. Otherwise, relax at a safe viewing point.
Descent and Panoramic Views
Begin your descent along the agreed trail, enjoying views across Morogoro town and the surrounding plains when visibility allows. Follow your guide’s advice on steep or slippery sections and allow enough time to return safely.
Return Transfer and Flight
After the hike, transfer to your confirmed departure point for the return journey to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar. Your pre-arranged vehicle will take you back to your hotel or resort after arrival, subject to the confirmed flight schedule.
